History of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB)

The history of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, at the initiative of the ruling community at that time. The initial purpose of its ownership was to meet the needs of technical personnel which became difficult because of the disruption of relations between the Netherlands. The Technische Hoogeschool te Bandoeng (often abbreviated as TH te Bandoeng, TH Bandung, or THS) began on July 3, 1920 as the first high school in the Indies.

In the Japanese colonial period, the attempt to return to the TH Bandung lecture was approved, but the research activities in the laboratories at TH Bandung campus allowed. The laboratory community is called the Tropical Scientific Research Institute.

On March 2, 1959, driven by ideas and beliefs based on the spirit of the struggle for the Independence Proclamation and insight into the future, the Government of Indonesia inaugurated the founding of the Institute of Technology in Bandung on March 2, 1959 based on Government Regulation Number 6 of 1959 concerning the Establishment of Technology Institutions (Gazette State of 1959 Number 9 and Supplement to State Gazette Number 1733) stipulated on February 28, 1959.

Until now, ITB has 13 ABET accredited study programs, namely:

2. Ocean Engineering Study Program (2011)
3. Physics Engineering Study Program (2012)
4. Chemical Engineering Study Program (2012)
5. Informatics Engineering Study Program (2014)
6. Environmental Engineering Study Program (2014)
7. Industrial Engineering Study Program (2014)
8. Petroleum Engineering Study Program (2015)
9. Civil Engineering Study Program (2015)
10. Industrial Engineering Management Study Program (2017)
11. Mining Engineering Study Program (2017)
12. Electric Power Engineering Study Program (2018)
13. Telecommunications Engineering Study Program (2018)

With the ABET accreditation, ITB integration starting in 2012 will receive a diploma not only BAN-PT accreditation but also related to the ABET logo which proves that ITB has been educated with international standards, not only institutionalized, but also officially verified.
